We’re Hiring an Education and Outreach Coordinator

The Bike Kitchen is hiring an Education and Outreach Coordinator for a permanent position. This position provides an opportunity to represent the Bike Kitchen at community events, to learn about cycling and urban planning news in Metro Vancouver, to become educated in active transportation, and to learn about the inner workings of a not for profit community bike shop.

The Bike Kitchen provides UBC students and the wider community with an accessible environment where they can learn about bicycle maintenance and cycling as a safe and sustainable means of transportation. We engage in education, outreach, and advocacy through our programs and our community bike shop. For more details on our programs and services, please visit bikecoop.ca and thebikekitchen.com.

The Education and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for managing and staffing our Outreach Clinics, workshops and courses, and other outreach activities. The Education and Outreach Coordinator will report to the Programs Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with partner organizations to plan and execute outreach tables at public events.
  • Arrange for staff and volunteers to run each program or event.
  • Manage workshop scheduling and sign-up
  • Keep outreach kits well stocked, clean, and relevant.
  • Write annual reports for all events, outreach, workshops, courses, and other work completed.
  • Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings, contribute to generation of new ideas for outreach.
  • Commit to at least one year of employment at the Bike Kitchen upon completion of 3 month probationary period.
  • Assist the Programs Manager as needed.
  • Work with Communications Coordinator to develop cycling education and outreach material.

Qualifications

  • A strong understanding of and commitment to anti-oppressive values and practices.
  • Strong professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and can produce deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Can work both independently and with a small team.
  • Proficient with Gmail and Google Drive.
  • Experience managing events and community outreach.

Assets

  • Experience working for a non-profit organization.
  • Some experience with community bike shops, either as a volunteer or staff member.
  • Some experience or training in bicycle mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of CRM software.
  • Experience with web development, WordPress, and SquareSpace
  • Experience managing social media accounts for an organization

Job Specifications

  • Compensation: $16.50/hour
    • eligible for review after 3 months
    • 4 sick hours per month
  • Hours: 24 hours / week
  • Position start date: as soon as position is filled, no later than January 15, 2019
  • Duration: 3 month probationary period, potential to be a permanent / long term position

We’re Hiring a Recycling Assistant

The Bike Kitchen is hiring a Recycling Assistant for a long term position. This job is available to all applicants who meet the following criteria and are willing and able to fulfill the position requirements. This position provides an opportunity to represent the Bike Kitchen at community events, to learn about cycling and urban planning news in Metro Vancouver, to become educated in active transportation, and to learn about the inner workings of a not for profit community bike shop. Some job training will be provided including health and safety, general orientation, and site specific orientations as needed.

The Bike Kitchen provides UBC students and the wider community with an accessible environment where they can learn about bicycle maintenance and cycling as a safe and sustainable means of transportation. The Recycling Assistant will be responsible for picking up bikes from around Vancouver and transporting them back to our shop on UBC’s campus, as well as organizing and maintaining our auxiliary storage facilities. The Recycling Assistant will report to the Programs Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with partner organizations, the Sustainability Coordinator, and the Programs Manager to coordinate pickups and dropoffs.
  • Drive a Modo truck to sites around Vancouver.
  • Partially dismantle bicycles at the South Vancouver Transfer Station in our special recycling area.
  • Keep logs of relevant data using Google Sheets.
  • Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings when possible.
  • Commit to at least one year of employment at the Bike Kitchen upon completion of 3 month probationary period.
  • Assist the Programs Manager as needed.

Qualifications
